About this piece
Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind is a song by Thomas Arne (1710 to 1778), to words by William Shakespeare. It was written for voice and piano; here the singer's tune is folded into the top of the right hand, over the piano's own part, so one player gives the whole song. The first verse of the English words sits under the tune.
How to play it
Let the tune sing out on top of the right hand and keep the notes under it lighter, as a singer would be heard over the piano. Where the voice rests, the introductions and interludes are exactly as the composer wrote them.

Who Arne was
English composer who wrote Rule, Britannia! for a masque in 1740. His father wanted him to be a lawyer, so he practised the spinet secretly at night with a handkerchief muffling the strings. He became the leading English theatre composer of his day.
