About this piece
Dismiss us with thy blessing, Lord (WASHINGTON) is a hymn tune by Reubin Monday, and it was printed in 1818 in The Virginia Sacred Musical Repository. A (Jackson 1953a, no. 52, David Music 1983). Here the choir's four parts are set on two staves for piano, soprano and alto in the right hand and tenor and bass in the left. As in the old American tunebooks, the tune itself is sung by the tenors, so listen for it in the upper line of the left hand.
How to play it
Hold every note its full length so the voices overlap as a choir's would, and lift only where a singer would breathe. Count it in two dotted beats so it lilts rather than plods.
