About this piece
Come, let us ascend (TRIUMPH) is a hymn tune by Amos Pilsbury, who lived from 1772 to 1812, and it was printed in 1799 in The United States Sacred Harmony. The tune was first published in Amos Pilsbury's The United States Sacred Harmony, 1799, but not attributed to anyone; composer is unknown. Here the choir's four parts are set on two staves for piano, soprano and alto in the right hand and tenor and bass in the left. As in the old American tunebooks, the tune itself is sung by the tenors, so listen for it in the upper line of the left hand.
How to play it
Play it as four singers rather than as chords: let the top line sing, keep the bass steady, and move the inner voices smoothly. Feel it in a gentle one in a bar once the notes are secure.
