About this piece
When man grows bold in sin (ASIA) is a psalm tune by Daniel Read, who lived from 1757 to 1836, and it was printed in 1785 in The American Singing-Book. Words by Isaac Watts, 1709, adaptation of Psalm 36. Here the choir's four parts are set on two staves for piano, soprano and alto in the right hand and tenor and bass in the left. As in the old American tunebooks, the tune itself is sung by the tenors, so listen for it in the upper line of the left hand.
How to play it
Play it as four singers rather than as chords: let the top line sing, keep the bass steady, and move the inner voices smoothly. Count it in two, with a calm half note pulse.
