About this piece
O salutaris hostia is a hymn tune by Vittorio Franz, who lived from 1859 to 1931, and it was printed in 1903 in Secunda anthologia vocalis. The words are by Thomas Aquinas. Here the choir's three parts are set on two staves for piano, the top voice in the right hand and the two lower voices in the left.
How to play it
Three voices share two hands here, so keep the lone line in one hand as smooth and singing as the pair in the other. Feel it in a gentle one in a bar once the notes are secure.

Who Franz was
German composer who wrote around three hundred and fifty songs, many of them short, intimate settings of Heine and Burns. Schumann and Liszt both championed his work. Increasing deafness forced him to give up his posts in Halle in later life.
