About this piece
Mein Seel soll loben Gott den Herrn, SWV 251 is a chorale by Heinrich Schütz, who lived from 1585 to 1672, and it was printed in 1628 in Psalmen Davids. Psalm 146 from the Becker Psalter. Here the choir's four parts are set on two staves for piano, soprano and alto in the right hand and tenor and bass in the left.

Play it as four singers rather than as chords: let the top line sing, keep the bass steady, and move the inner voices smoothly. Count it in two, with a calm half note pulse.
