About this piece
Arthur Henry Mann wrote this tune in 1881, and it has been sung ever since to John Bode's hymn 'O Jesus, I have promised'. Here it is arranged for piano from the choir original, four parts on two staves, in a plain 4/4 that climbs to a warm high point in its last line.
How to play it
The tune is the top note of the right hand, so lean on it and let the alto underneath be softer. Hold every half note its full length, since the hymn breathes only at the ends of lines.

Who Mann was
English organist, affectionately known as Daddy Mann, who led the choir of King's College, Cambridge for over fifty years. He built its reputation as one of the great choirs. He wrote the hymn tune Angel's Story for O Jesus, I Have Promised.
