- Learn the right hand of bars 1 to 8 on its own, in C major. Say the note names out loud the first time through, then play it three times without stopping.

About this piece
O Babe in manger lying is a Christmas carol by Joseph Barnby, who lived from 1838 to 1896. The words are by William Chatterton Dix. Here the choir's four parts are set on two staves for piano, soprano and alto in the right hand and tenor and bass in the left.
How to play it
Hold every note its full length so the voices overlap as a choir's would, and lift only where a singer would breathe. Choose a calm tempo you can hold from the first bar to the last, and breathe at the ends of the phrases.

English composer, organist and conductor who led the Royal Albert Hall Choral Society. He wrote hundreds of hymn tunes and the part-song Sweet and Low. He later became principal of the Guildhall School of Music.
