Open the sheet music libraryDomenico Scarlatti (1685-1757)
Italian composer who spent much of his career at the Spanish and Portuguese royal courts, teaching keyboard to a princess who would become Queen of Spain, and who left behind 555 keyboard sonatas unlike anything else being written in Europe at the time: full of hand-crossings, guitar-like strumming effects, and the sharp rhythmic snap of Iberian folk dance. He wrote almost nothing else, no symphonies, no operas of note, just sonata after sonata, each one a compact, often mischievous experiment in what two hands on a keyboard could do. Most weren't published in his lifetime; they survive largely through manuscript copies made for the queen he taught.

The easiest Scarlatti on the shelf, in order. Nothing here is graded and nobody is ranked: the shelf simply puts the pieces that ask less of your hands before the ones that ask more.

How the reader works
Each score opens as engraved notation you can read from the stand, and it plays: hear the piece first, then slow it down and loop the bar that is not working. There is nothing to install and no account to make. When you want paper, print it.
Every file is MusicXML, so MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale and Dorico open them too.
Where to go next
If you are learning Scarlatti rather than only reading, the scale pages cover fingering in every key, the chord pages spell out every chord, and the symbol dictionary explains any mark on the page you do not recognise.
